Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation JOB POSTING Roads Superintendent (Band Member Preferred) Program: Nawash Roads Department Reports To: Capital Manager Salary Range: $60,000 to $70,000 Term of Employment: Permanent Full Time Hours of Work: 40 hours per week Closing Date: Wednesday December 4, 2019 The Roads Departments administers and manages Nawash's roads, landfill site, cemeteries, street lights, Band owned equipment, and Nawash Fuel Card Lock program. The Roads Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day work activities of the department and its employees including the construction, maintenance and repair services for Nawash roads, drains, and landfill sites. In addition, the Roads Supervisor administers the First Nations Card Lock Fuel program, supports other Nawash infrastructure and operates equipment and machinery on an as required basis. The Roads Department is governed by the Chippewas of Nawash First Nation Personnel Policy, and Financial Regulations. Minimum Qualifications Post-secondary accreditation and/or certification in a related field or construction trade Ten (10) years' experience in construction road work including a minimum of seven (7) years supervisory experience Certified Road Supervisor (CRS) designation or actively working towards completion Possession of AZ licenses with a clear Driver's Abstract and access to a reliable vehicle Able to operate all roads equipment and vehicles in a professional and responsible manner Recent and relevant experience working with a First Nation Community is an asset Must provide the results of a recent Criminal Background Check Safety conscientious with a track record of taking all reasonable and necessary precautions to en sure the personal health and safety of employees and self Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required Superior knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Confined Space Entry Effective and diplomatic oral, written and non-verbal communication skills and able to handle public relations (the public) with tack and diplomacy Effective and efficient organizational, time management and project management skills Mechanical aptitude with a background in mechanics and an ability to identify potential operating problems with machinery before major breakdown occurs Good supervisory skills with an ability to assign work, mentor employees, identify and implement staff training needs Strong financial acumen with the ability to read and interpret necessary financial and budgetary documents as required by the Band and the Ministry of Transport Agile, able to assume responsibility and meet deadlines while being flexible to accommodate shifting priorities Strong negotiate skills to effectively negotiate contracts, manage projects, supervise, mentor and motivate staff Able to comprehend and develop policy papers, technical papers and present technical data to Supervisors, Community Members and other key partners Works well under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude and meet deadlines Band members and persons of aboriginal heritage are encouraged to apply.
